Magic
WAND: 13 1/4", walnut,
WALNUT TREE (the Passion) - unrelenting, strange and full of contrasts, often egotistic, aggressive, noble, broad horizon, unexpected reactions, spontaneous, unlimited ambition, no flexibility, difficult and uncommon partner, not always liked but often admired, ingenious strategist, very jealous and passionate, no compromise.
PATRONUS: Raven
BOGGART: Bunnies
STRENGTHS: Dark Arts; Transfiguration; Potions; Occlumency; wizards chess
WEAKNESSES: Herbology; Charms
CREATURES:

Outward
HEIGHT: 1.9 m [6'3"]
WEIGHT: 92.9 kg [205 lbs] in perfect health, 79.3 kg [175 lbs] at his leanest
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Dark Mark on his left arm, multiple scars on his body and several tattoos which were all magic, not Muggle, made – one on his left hand under his wedding band, made to mimic the design on the band so even were he to lose his wedding band, he would still look married; one on his right shoulder, a small mapping of the constellation Orion, with the star Bellatrix done in such a way to make it stand out; and one on his left buttock, a result of a night of drinking too heavily when he was young and waking up with a tattoo he still does not remember getting and no one knows about other than whoever was there that night, and of course Bellatrix.
APPEARANCE: Rodolphus, at his healthiest, is a bear-like sort of man with a tall, well-muscled form. His weight suits his body frame and he finds it easy to maintain when he has good food and ways to exercise – it has been incarceration and being on the run that has whittled his health down and left him appearing thin, though not as gaunt as his first stint in Azkaban left him. He has gold-brown eyes that are often alight with mischief and his dark hair, formerly worn slightly longer before his first imprisonment in Azkaban, is now worn short, revealing greying hairs at his temples that match the few greying hairs in his neatly trimmed goatee. With skin that naturally looks as though he has a light tan, a normal indication of poor health for him would be when his skin tone is very pale. However, his time on the run after his private incarceration has left him tanned even though he is still far from perfect health.
HABITS: Twirling his wand or stroking his facial hair while deep in thought, rubbing the bridge of his nose when annoyed or stressed, flirting when in practically any mood – it is something of a release for him to behave like a bit of a Casanova

Inward
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Charming, arrogant, slightly dangerous
PERSONALITY: Rodolphus has a very charming, jovial personality quite naturally, easily breaking into his recognizable deep laugh at the slightest amusement and quite friendly and generous with anyone he deems suitable to speak with, unless he would find out they were less than suitable (such as discover their blood status), then he closes up quite stonily, his whole air becoming quite imposing because he is a rather imposing figure without his customary smile. Never mistake that particular air for ice, as even at his stoniest, he is still a live wire and prefers the truth of his nature to the polite veneer meant for society.

He is absolutely brimming with confidence in himself and his abilities, even with failure as large as several imprisonments in Azkaban in his past, and a jovial-toned arrogance often goes hand in hand with that confidence. He is comfortable as either a follower or leader, making him well suited not only to his former service to the Dark Lord, but to his marriage AND 'working' relationship with Bellatrix. He is often content to let her take the lead but he will assert himself if necessary, being the reason and control for her that she does not possess. Compromise is something he is no stranger to and he usually does not mind it but he has been known to only accept his way or no way in situations important to him, such as originally getting Bellatrix for his own.

Azkaban has had an effect on Rodolphus - not both times, simply the first under Dementor control. While madness often loomed alarmingly close for him, he kept it at bay with a vision of himself and Bellatrix, unaccountably filthy and mentally and emotionally worn from the effects of the Dementors, alone in a room long enough for him to take Bellatrix roughly against the very walls that imprisoned them, the sort of lovemaking that occurred in the heights of his fits of jealousy. Enough about that fantasy was dark and depressing that the Dementors could not take it from him.

That very situation is one that also reflects a part of his personality that concerns Bellatrix, that extreme jealousy and possessiveness that springs from his intense feelings for her. To him, Bellatrix is perfect in all ways, a beauty unsurpassed that can do no wrong and so blame for anything with always lay with the other person. His revenge is often swift and painful but occasionally will be no more than words while he bides his time deciding what would be the best consequence. To her, he will be ever faithful, even if he does still enjoy flirting with others as part of his natural pleasant nature and charm (as well as a rampant libido that has not truly suffered age or imprisonment), as well as to see Bellatrix's own jealousy in action.

Rodolphus is surprisingly family-oriented and has been since a young age. The closeness between Rodolphus and Rabastan has been the reason that more than once they ended up in trouble together, even when it was likely Rodolphus who should have been punished alone for leading Rabastan into something. This was a fact that continued on until their actions against the Longbottoms. Rabastan will always be “little brother” to Rodolphus, even at the ages they are now, so it has always amused him that Rabastan felt the need to be protective as well, especially considering the rivalry between the two at times.

As these connections to his closest family might suggest, Rodolphus' jealousy and passionate feelings tie into a very emotional nature, but it is one he has worked to make it not be obvious. Despite this, his body language often readily indicates his emotional state – he is simply too bold and alive to contain all of that under a calmer, icier exterior. Part of that emotional nature is his temper, which is often sudden and violent. He is not a man to get on the wrong side of, as he has no qualms about ridding himself of the offending person with a verbal cut down or the end of his wand.

Rodolphus is simply very much a wolf personality, proving the meaning behind the origin of his name – famed wolf – was suited to him even at birth.
STRENGTHS: Persistence – Rodolphus' life often reflects how very persistence he can be in all ways, unwilling or unable to give up on something he wants when he things there is any hope of getting it; team player – he knows when to follow and when to lead, an important trait to have had in his years of service to the Dark Lord and especially now in helping Bellatrix band together those who are still loyal to the cause; loyalty – beyond anything else, Rodolphus knows how to be loyal because it is instinctive to him and he does not suffer disloyalty or even the appearance of it from anyone; charisma – he is quite the charmer and knows exactly how to use it to his advantage... plus, he tends to generally enjoy it when it means flirting with attractive women
WEAKNESSES: Jealousy - far and above anything else, as it is then he stops seeing all reason and only sees in shades of green (and not just the green of jealousy tints his vision, but the green flash of the Killing Curse if he's tested too far); intolerance – from blood purity to familial obligation and more, he has strong opinions about everything and can swing quite to the extremes when riled about those opinions; conscience – his is very selective, Rodolphus having no problem with killing and even enjoying it, yet still managing to fully feel human emotions like guilt when it comes to those he cares about
IQ: Above average
EXTROVERT/INTROVERT: Very much an extrovert in all ways
PHOBIAS/FEARS: Bunnies. No one really knows why, Rodolphus included.
MENTAL HEALTH: He is a Muggle psychiatrist's diagnostic dream but seems to be unaware of any issues within himself.

His Story
CHILDHOOD HOME: France
HISTORY: Rodolphus was born the heir to the Lestrange family on Hallowe'en night, 1949 in France. Alternately spoiled by his mother and lectured to be more mature than his age by his father, he spent those early years of his life quite content but without a playmate other than children on the family's frequent holidaying. What he needed was a sibling, something that finally happened several years later. When Rabastan was born, Rodolphus let very few near his brother's cradle, which became a problem when nannies needed to tend to the infant Rabastan. Rodolphus would often not take no for an answer when it came to the things he wanted to do with Rabastan, such wanting to show his brother the stables before he could even walk very well on his own. That incident resulted in a stable hand attempting to rescue the two from a stallion's stall one afternoon, the stable hand nearly losing a hand in the process while the boys remained safely, though alarmingly, tucked between the large horse's hooves while they played.

As the boys aged, that protectiveness of Rodolphus' became less noticeable though no less strongly felt. It was simply carefully covered to protect his younger brother's masculinity – after all, boys could be protective of each other but they never made an issue of it. There was, of course, a natural rivalry which Rodolphus tended to purposely test at times with his teasing nature, getting a brotherly amusement out of setting Rabastan off about various things. However, Rodolphus always knew the limits of such actions and never allowed it to become deadly serious or end in a duel.

Hogwarts was much the same for Rodolphus as life before had been, as he excelled at what he knew best, such as the Dark Arts, Transfiguration and Potions, and spent little energy on what he did not, such as Charms and Herbology, unless it would get him favor with a professor or extra benefits in some way. It was only when he began to take notice of the female part of the school population did life change dramatically for Rodolphus, as the first time he set eyes on the eldest Black daughter, who was a year younger than him, he knew he had found the girl destined to be his future wife. Never before had he been so certain about something, as he had been used to things being handed to him without really stopping to consider their value to him, save for his relationship with his brother.

Of course, such decisions required both parties to be aware and consenting, a fact Rodolphus threw aside when he went to his father and declared his intent at the young age of thirteen. While he bided his time waiting for Bellatrix to take notice of him and show equal interest, Rodolphus was no stranger to flirting with any girl within reach, something which did not go away with age though it did lessen in intent. When his usual actions did not gain Bellatrix's attentions by the time he was a fifth year and she a fourth year, Rodolphus began to actively pursue her, seeking her out where he normally would not be present and flirting with her openly and at any opportunity. After what seemed like forever, his attentions began to be returned, barely so at first until one evening Bellatrix pushed him into a broom closet and the two spent quite some time snogging. Had Rodolphus not been hooked before, he would have been as of that evening. She was beautiful, yes, more than any girl he had or would know but even more, she was dangerous in a dark, exciting way that stirred that same side in him and he realized that Bellatrix Black was every bit a drug for him.

He learned soon that Bellatrix's style was to use and cast aside, men included, but he was determined he would not be one of those people in the end. He continued to pursue her despite both of them carrying on with other people over those years, a cycle of brief weeks with her separated with scores of flirtations, snogging and more with other girls, only to come back to her again. Rarely did he resent it for he thought she could do no wrong and instead projected his frustrations and jealousies at the boys she carried on with, leaving several wishing they had never been so foolish as to pursue Bellatrix. For Rodolphus, everything was a tool to essentially woo Bellatrix and make her his alone, from his skill at the Dark Arts to his prowess on the Quidditch pitch as a Beater and even his involvement in the organization whispered about in the corridors and discussed openly in the Slytherin common room.

When it came time for Rodolphus to graduate in 1968, he was nearly certain a proposal would receive a yes from her, but again he patiently bided his time. There was much to do between his tasks for his new master and seeing to various family obligations – as the heir, he needed to learn to manage the family holdings and even learn to run the Lestrange stables, despite his disinterest in such a task. After all, Rabastan, even during his school years, had always been far better suited to not only maintaining the stables but making them grow. Time of his own with no obligations to others he spent owling Bellatrix and meeting with her secretly during Hogsmeade weekends and holidays, falling ever harder for her until he finally, rashly, told her of his true feelings and asked her to marry him at a picnic dinner celebrating not her graduation in 1969, but her joining the ranks of the Death Eaters. Knowing Bellatrix, he did not expect her to voice her feelings even if she did feel the same, but he was certain she would say yes.

First the first time in his life, Rodolphus learned what it was like to be very, very wrong as Bellatrix flatly turned him down and then left. Something in her eyes, though, made Rodolphus think that perhaps this 'no' was not forever and it only needed time or persistence, both of which he had. Despite Bellatrix making herself scarce and busying herself with task for their cause, he did still see her and time and again a look in her eye told him there was something more. For several months nothing was addressed until one night after they had all reported in from various missions, a male DE that had gone out with her implied the mission had not been without personal reward. Enraged with jealousy, Rodolphus cornered Bellatrix and demanded to know the truth from her, among other things. The argument ended in heated intimacy, Rodolphus asserting far more of a claim than he ever had before and it was that, perhaps, that was the catalyst for him winning Bellatrix over at last.

Much as their courtship had been, so too was their marriage when they finally wed in 1970 and the oftentimes tumultuous nature of it could not have suited Rodolphus more. As a married man, he could not even imagine what life would have been like had his only options for a wife been beautiful trophy wives – his Bellatrix was far more than that and always would be. They often did things as a team, from enduring dinner parties to robing and masking themselves as DE to further their cause and rid the world of the filth they saw everywhere. Never shy in his affections or his lusts, their missions often ended with feverish lovemaking, Rodolphus finding Bellatrix especially appealing with that dark fire in her eyes and a trail of destruction and bodies behind them. Their passion for their cause and their rashness at times would lead them to many successes during the years they served the Dark Lord, but eventually it would lead them to failure.

Remaining one of the few loyal to the Dark Lord after he disappeared on Hallowe'en night, Rodolphus and Bellatrix continued to seek information about the whereabouts of their master, Bellatrix convinced he could not have perished and Rodolphus certain that Bellatrix had to be right in her thinking. Rodolphus would not see all their hard work be for naught, especially when so many were offering up excuses for their actions as DE. He would never compromise on his loyalties even if others would. When Bellatrix was alerted to the Longbottom's possibly having information, Rodolphus was only too eager to aide her – if they could bring back the Dark Lord, they would be in the highest favor and then the world they had often dreamed about would still be within reach. As such, Rodolphus readily agreed to Rabastan's request to come as well, wanting to share such success with his little brother. Instead, he only shared failure with him as the three, along with Barty, were captured and imprisoned.

Learning of Bellatrix's pregnant state after their imprisonment was a shock to Rodolphus, who was still adjusting to life fighting the Dementors affects on him. The hope of a child was a powerful lure for the creatures, leaving him more weakened than he should have been so early on. While he considered escape, especially when he learned of the Ministry's threats about who would raise the child if they did not comply, he knew such a thing might prove impossible. Rodolphus' only recourse was to be compliant or he risked having his son raised by Mudbloods or Muggle sympathizers. Instead, the baby was sent to his cousin and her husband – Narcissa and Lucius were not an option due to his long-time dislike of Lucius, one which Bellatrix shared – and Rodolphus was left to ponder what those years of his child's life would be like in the 'proper' environment but not the right one. Unable to do more and deprived of even his wife's voice from her former cell, he alternately bragged and vented to Rabastan, who was in a close by cell, telling his brother of the child and making Rabastan swear to see to Ares if he should ever get out of Azkaban before Rodolphus.

Imprisonment brought about insidious feelings of madness as year after year passed under Dementor control. Keeping his sanity by the barest thread at times, the years were alternately long and short, time sometimes crystal clear and painfully slow and other times something indefinite and shifting. Those years are not something he speaks of or even allows himself to think on often, other than knowing that he will do anything not to experience it again.

Freedom in 1996 was the start of Rodolphus returning slowly to himself, the first few months of that stint of freedom still given to nightmares and the almost-madness that plagued him. It brought about a meeting with his son, Rodolphus finding he genuinely liked the boy as a person though paternal feelings were hard to feel at first for this otherwise stranger. Ares, by being everything he and Bellatrix had hoped for in a son, everything that was best about Lestranges and Blacks and full of promise to continue on their lines, made it easy for those feelings to soon emerge. However, he had to leave his son again to continue to stay out of the Ministry's grasp.

Not wholly stable himself after all that time in Azkaban, it was near impossible for Rodolphus to be the man for Bellatrix he had before, the one who could not only be her voice of 'reason' but also tell her 'no' and have her listen. Without that counter to her natural desires, the two wrought havoc during those months until Rodolphus began to be that man again just a bit, just in time for plans to be made for the actions in the Ministry of Magic. However, he still allowed Bellatrix to have free reign that night, resulting in his eventual capture along with most of the other Death Eaters. While many could blame Bellatrix for her impatience that kept the prophecy from them, Rodolphus did not, as even now she could do no wrong in his eyes. Her freedom assured that one of them could be in contact with Ares, something that was important to Rodolphus.

At first, he fought his second imprisonment, viewing the walls themselves as tainted with the remnants of the Dementors, but he did not allow himself to break under such thoughts and so was able to wait out his time there until the second escape of all the imprisoned DE. Reuniting with Bellatrix allowed him to regain the progress he had lost in returning to Azkaban and soon he was not just a shadow of his former self but truly the Rodolphus Lestrange of all those years ago, only older and wiser. That time in the war was by far the best he had experienced in his life since before Azkaban.

At the end of the final battle, Rodolphus experienced both triumph and downfall as he first came face to face with Ted Tonks and killed the man without a thought to anything but the fact Ted had once been the catalyst for disgrace to the Blacks (especially Bellatrix) but was then felled by a rogue Auror while injured from Ted's defense of himself. Rather than send Rodolphus with the others to Azkaban, he snuck the unconscious man off to a private house in Germany. There he attempted to use Rodolphus as a source of information about the DEs past and present plans, hideouts and even coax Rodolphus over to the 'light' side with potions snuck into foods but in all those months, Rodolphus refused to budge. After all, he had survived Azkaban, imprisonment in house with decent, albeit occasionally drugged, food and facilities was practically a paradise and a few Aurors were no match for his will. A potion could not change the person Rodolphus had been all these years and would continue to be.

Recently, Rodolphus was able to put a plan of escape into action and violently killed both the rogue Auror that imprisoned him and one of those helping the Auror keep Rodolphus essentially hostage. Since killing those men, Rodolphus has focused his efforts on a search for Bellatrix and Rabastan, as he believes Ares to be safely in school until he and Bellatrix can retrieve him. He has worked his way through known haunts in France and Spain while completely unaware of the journaling network because of his efforts to lay low and has now re-entered England to do as he has been, carefully searching known family and DE haunts in hopes of finding one of them or finding a DE with word of them. At some point soon he will discover the existence of the journals and seek contact with his family.

Astrological
SIGN: Slytherin Scorpio
Scorpio is the eighth house of the Zodiac and governs the genitalia. Positive traits include magnetic charisma, ambition, drive, a penetrating mind, curiosity, intensity of focus, emotional depth, consistency, persistence, willpower, and the potential for inner transformation and regeneration; negative traits include selfishness, obsessiveness, vindictiveness, hypersensitivity, ruthlessness, cynicism, an inability to understand the word "moderation," and jealousy. It is said that Scorpios embody both the best and the worst of all that are born under the stars, and that there are three kinds of Scorpios: wicked scorpions, cunning serpents, and saintly eagles. What each Scorpio becomes is entirely up to that Scorpio.

What is said of Slytherins born under all other signs is doubly true of Slytherins born under Scorpio. (Or was it that what is said of Scorpios is doubly true of Scorpios sorted into Slytherin?) There is no middle ground here - these wizards can embody all that is the very best in the world... or all that is the very worst. They are heroes, or they are villains. They are attracted to the dark, twisted, and forbidden mysteries of the world from the day they are born, and only they can determine whether they will study the dark arts in order to oppose them, or to embrace them. However, as Scorpio is a sign of transformation and regeneration, it is not impossible for even the most evil of dark wizards to turn to the path of good... Scorpio Slytherins have uncanny wisdom, insight into human psychology, and high "emotional IQ's." They are incredibly ambitious, often exist in a state of total ego, and if misused or hurt, can nurse the wound and seethe for decades. Still, although they are often tempted to do horrible things in the name of glory or discovery, they nevertheless are often the kindest, most compassionate, and most forgiving people of all, for they have seen their own inner darkness, faced it, and do not run from it when they encounter it in others.
